This profile provides a summary of the accomplishments under the Targeted Brownfields Assessment (TBA) program. EPA's TBA program is designed to help minimize the uncertainties of contamination often associated with brownfields and is especially helpful for those entities without EPA Brownfields Brownfields A brownfield is an abandoned, idled, or underused industrial and commercial facility/site where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination. EPA's Brownfields initiative helps communities mitigate potential health risks and restore the economic viability of such areas or properties. Assessment grants. The TBA program is not a grant program, but a service provided through an EPA contract in which EPA directs a contractor to conduct environmental assessment activities to address the requestor's needs. Unlike grants, EPA does not provide funding directly to the entity requesting the services.
