Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Wausau Paper Plant Parcel A and the Groveton Paper Board Mill Parcel B-1, B-2, B-3 are located adjacent to the downtown business district of the village of Groveton in the town of Northumberland, NH. Due to the size of the property and the number of workers employed in the operations, the site is the most significant feature of the town, and was formerly its primary economic engine. In the 1800s, the site contained a sawmill, but has been a paper mill since the early 1900s. The Wausau paper plant has been owned by a number of entities, including James River and Diamond International. Over the years, the 2 properties were operated as one industrial site. The Wausau property was purchased by the current owner in 2008. The facility is now largely empty, as much of the machinery and equipment has been sold and removed. Groveton Paper Board, Inc. is insolvent and the Groveton Paper Mill ceased operations on or about Dec. 31, 2005. Further, the first priority secured lender took possession of the Mill in 2006, has sold off all personal property, has ceased all activities at the site and will depart the property as of Dec. 29, 2008. The intent is for Groveton Acquisitions LLC to purchase the Groveton Paper Board property and then sell the 2 properties as one unit. There is a viable potential purchaser for these properties. The potential purchaser would bring new jobs to the community and re-invigorate its stagnant economy. A brownfields assessment is necessary to move this transfer, sale and redevelopment forward.
