Additional Property Attributes

The site was formerly a gasoline station occupied by Thoni Oil from the late 1960s to the late 1980s. The gasoline station building was demolished in 1992. The City of Melvindale purchased the Property in April 2012 and has redeveloped it as a low-intensity, passive park. The park is intended for relaxation, community gatherings, farmers markets, and potentially outdoor music. The park does not contain sports fields or playgrounds and is not designed for high intensity recreational use. In order to mitigate unacceptable exposure to impacted soil and groundwater on the Property from historical hazardous substance use, the uppermost, at minimum, 12 inches of soil was stripped from the Property and disposed offsite, prior to placement of the exposure barrier. The placement of the exposure barrier was based on the assumption that impacted soil is present at depths beyond the upper 12 inches. Upon completion of the exposure barrier, the Property was redeveloped into the current city park.
