Additional Property Attributes

US EPA Assessment Grant funding was used to conduct Phase I and II ESAs and a hazardous materials survey including asbestos at the site, in anticipation of demolishing the site building for potential future redevelopment. The Phase II ESA included a geophysical survey as well as soil borings. No likely USTs were identified during the geophysical survey. Contaminants were not detected in soil or groundwater at concentrations greater than the Part 201 residential cleanup criteria. Identified hazardous materials and ACBMs have been removed from the site building.

Former Use: The site is includes or included an approximately 54,000 square foot former high school building, and associated asphalt and concrete paved parking and landscaped areas. The building was constructed in 1954 as a high school with additions in 1956 and 1959. In addition, a greenhouse was constructed at the site in 1961 and a swimming pool was constructed at the site in 1972. In 1998, the two westerly wings of the building were demolished, which included classrooms and an auto shop. The site building was occupied by Taylor Center High School from 1954 until 1997, and by a recreation/community center until July 2008, when it closed. Prior to the construction of the site building since at least 1937, the site was occupied by vacant land.
