Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: A review of available property history information including title records, Sanborn Fire Insurance maps, site plans and aerial photography illustrates that this area consisted of tidal marsh through the 1950s, with industrial activity located to the north, beyond Little Creek. The industrial facilities north of the property included Richards Metals, Edgeworth and Bellrock leather tanneries, Barrett Chemical Co., which was involved with the processing of manufactured coal gas byproducts, and Allied Chemical Co. and Solvent Chemical Co., both of which processed various industrial chemical products. Between the 1940s and 1960s, the configuration of Little Creek was altered substantially with filling that created portions of parcels 4-1 and 4-6. Available Assessors record information indicates that initial site development for Parcel 4-1 occurred in 1965 with the construction of a warehouse. Since the 1960s, Parcel 4-1 was owned and occupied by John J. Paonessa, Jr., Trustee of Corpway Realty Trust (CRT). CRT purchased Parcels 4-2 through 4-6 in 1995 and expanded its operations. From the 1960s through 2001, Paonessa operated a concrete recycling, excavation and demolition business on the property and the land was primarily used for material processing and stockpiling of crushed stone/concrete and soil for reuse and for box trailer storage.
