Additional Property Attributes

A letter summarizing the potential remedial options for this property was prepared in this quarter. (PPF - Toyota of Greenfield, 4/27/07). A subsurface investigation was prepared and conducted on site. A report summarizing the investigation and its conclusions were created. No substances above reporting standards were found. Construction of the John W. Olver Transit Center was completed in 2012. This "green" building is the site of the nation's first net zero energy transit center. In addition to its function as the region's local and regional bus station, the Center will serve as the region's passenger rail stop (once rail upgrades are completed and service is reinstated in 2014). The second floor of the building contains the offices of the Franklin Regional Transit Authority and the Franklin Regional Council of Governments.

Former Use: This property is located next to an active rail line in the downtown area. In 1887, the property had been occupied by railroad tracks, a freight house, locomotive house and turn table until 1896. Some of the buildings and the tracks had been removed by 1940 when the current building was constructed. Since 1954, an automotive dealership has operated on the property.
