Additional Property Attributes

At different time interval, the subject property operated gas stations from 1927 until 2002 and at a point of time, the property was subsequently a LUST facility because of incident of spill and leakage from the USTs which led to the contamination of soil and groundwater at the property. Although, DDOE has closed its investigation of the LUST cases associated with the subject property, the extent and risk associated with the subject property has not been fully assessed. The subject property is improved with a small brick kiosk near the northern boundary and based on the age of the site structure, assessment of it should be considered because of Asbestos Containing Material (ACM).

Former Use: The subject property occupies 0.01 acres of land located northwest of the intersection of Rhode Island Avenue and Eastern Avenue, N.E , in the Woodridge neighborhood of northeast Washington DC. The property has approximately 50 feet of frontage on Rhode Isalnd Avenue, NE which is the southeastern property boundary, approximately 70 feet of frontage along Eastern Avenue, NE, the northeastern property boundary and about 40 feet of frontage along Otis Street, NE, which is the southwestern property boundary. Vehicular access to the property is not currently avaliable, jersey walls are positioned along the boundaries and pedistrian access is generally unrestricted. The property is improved with a small vacant brick structure located along the northern property boundary and appears to have been used as a kiosk for the former gasoline stations. The majority of the subject property is covered with concrete pavement and a small gravel covered area is located along the western portion. The property was generally free of debris and no drums, buckets or other storage containers which could potentially contain hazardous or regulated mmaterials were found. The subject property is owned by Mr. James G. Samuel and it was acquired on June 11, 2010. While a 1927 Baist Real Estate Atlas shows a gasoline station situated along the western boundary, a 1985 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map shows the gasoline station being razed and replaced with the existing kiosk. A canopy covers the kiosk and extends southeast ward covering the fuel dispensers.
