Additional Property Attributes

The site is currently unimproved vacant land with remnants of piers along the river to the north, and a wooded southern portion of the site. Prior to 1920, the site was part of a wetland complex associated with the rivers junction with Lake Erie. In approximately the 1920s, the site was filled with spoils associated with river dredging in the region. From the late 1930s to the 1960s, the northern portion of the site was used as a material staging area. By 1961, an apparent paved area and a tower were located in the northern portion of the site and were likely associated with the loading and unloading of ships from two piers located along the rivers edge. The northern and central portions of the site were used for coal and petroleum coke loading/unloading and storage from approximately the 1970s until 2008. The site has been unimproved vacant and wooded land since 2008.

Former Use: The site is approximately 8.15 acres in area and consists of one parcel located along the River Raisin. The site is currently unimproved wooded and vacant land with remnants of piers along the river. The southern portion of the site is wooded. Prior to 1920, the site was part of a wetland complex associated with the rivers junction with Lake Erie. In approximately the 1920s, the site was filled with spoils associated with river dredging in the region. The northern and central portions of the site were used for coal and petroleum coke loading/unloading and storage from approximately the 1970s until 2008. The site has been unimproved vacant and wooded land since 2008. In 2013, the Port of Monroe purchased the site, adjacent to existing Port of Monroe owned land and docking space, from Holcim, Inc. (formerly Holnam, Inc.) primarily to increase its capacity for the storage and transportation of manufacturing and industrial goods, and to improve transportation infrastructure.
