Additional Property Attributes

The site is currently occupied by one two-story, vacant commercial building that was formerly used for Wyandotte City Hall offices and gravel/paved parking lots.

Former Use: From the mid-1850s until the early 1890s, the site was part of the 2,200-acre Eureka Iron and Steel Works property, and included an office structure in the northwestern portion, a machine and pattern shop in the southwestern portion, and railroad spurs crossing the eastern portion. In the early 1910s, the site was unimproved land. The northern portion of the site contained a small used car lot (with two small buildings) and a small store in the 1920s and 1930s, and was developed with the current site building in 1941. The building was used as a retail store (Federal Department store) until late 1966, was used as Wyandotte City Hall from 1968 until 2013 and has been primarily vacant since 2014. The central portion of the site contained the Wyandotte Public Library from the 1920s to 1946, and was redeveloped with a commercial building in 1946 and used for various retail and furniture stores until 2010, when it was demolished and the area was redeveloped with a gravel parking lot. The southern portion of the site was occupied by the Majestic Theatre from 1914 until 1951, when the building was renovated for use as commercial stores. The building in the southern portion of the site was demolished in 1966 and the area was redeveloped with a paved parking lot.
