Additional Property Attributes

Property was redeveloped into a Save-A-Lot grocery store in a food desert. The store opened in January 2015. Additional uses are planned to serve the surrounding impoverished neighborhood. 11 full-time jobs were created. Lead found in soil in building vicinity was addressed by keeping slab intact.

Former Use: The southwest portion of the property was the location of a gasoline station from the early 1940s until the late 1950s. Sanborn maps showed 6 USTs in this area. A dry cleaner was located in the northern portion of the site until 1945. The site was used as a grocery store from 1950-2001. The facility was then leased to the American Beryllium Company for use as a machine shop. The City of Akron owned the property during the assessment. Intent to transfer the property was announced toward the end of the assessment work.
