Additional Property Attributes

The subject property, including the existing former manufacturing building and the surrounding grounds, has been vacant since Federal Screw Works closed the facility in 2007. Over the course of the next five years, MDC will redevelop the former manufacturing site by constructing a mixed use commercial/residential development.

Former Use: The subject property was constructed with an industrial manufacturing building and office and operated as the Chelsea Screw Works in the late teens (1917-1919). The subject property was subsequently sold to Federal Screw Works (1920s), which further expanded the development and continued to operate on the site until 2006. A transformer sub station was also located on the subject property circa 1909 until at least the mid 1950s. Prior to 1917, the subject property was most likely composed of numerous smaller parcels primarily developed for residential use, but also including a former railroad right-of-way and siding (Detroit, Jackson & Chicago-Electric).The subject property, including the existing former manufacturing building and the surrounding grounds, sat vacant when Federal Screw Works closed the facility in 2007.
