Additional Property Attributes

The Hangar #2 building was in poor condition and asbestos abatement and hazardous materials removal were required prior to the planned demolition, to allow redevelopment of the site for aviation-related purposes.

Former Use: The (former) Hangar #2 building and ramp areas comprised approximately 5.5 acres, located in the southwestern corner of the 2,600-acre Willow Run Airport. The eight bay, 235,000 square foot hangar was constructed during World War II, and was used for a variety of aircraft maintenance, testing and support services through 2010. The building was vacant from 2010 until being demolished in 2015 in poor condition. The Ford Motor Company sold the airport to the University of Michigan in 1947. In 1977, the U of M transferred ownership to the County of Wayne, the current site owner.
