Additional Property Attributes

Oakland Fraternal Historic Cemetery Park was purchased by the City of Little Rock in 1863 as a burial place for the Civil War soldiers dying in Little Rock hospitals. Records indicate that there are 62,000 burials, 33100 were between the years of 1863 and 1959. The burial mausoleum is the site of the remediation. Built in 1919, the Oakland Mausoleum is clad completely in limestone with a flat roof. The concrete foundation is compromised over time by shifting clay, poor quality concrete, and standing water. in 2015, the cemetery, the City, and the Arkansas Historic Preservation program undertook stabilization measures and fixed the drainage issues, made temporary roof repairs and removed building stone in danger of collapsing. The City then obtained a state grant to install a new membrane roof and conducted an assessment that determined that asbestos was in the sub-roof. In order to install the new rood, abatement was necessary.
