Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Site is one 4.6-acre parcel (Map 105, Lot 14) southwest of the Jericho Road. Access to the site is available from Jericho Road which is the northern Site boundary, and the Berlin Water Works access road, which traverses the approximate center of the Site from east to west. The Site north of the access road includes an approximately 3,000-square-foot auto repair garage, gravel parking, and storage area, and the Site south of the access road is undeveloped and wooded. The Berlin Water Works access road first existed as an unimproved trail by circa 1937. The northern portion of the Site was first developed with the existing garage building sometime between 1937 and 1960, and a former structure also occupied the northeast corner of the Site between circa 1977 to 1986. The Site operated as an auxiliary parcel to the Isaacson Steel, Inc. operations, which were located north of the Site across the street at 148 Jericho Road. Operations at the Site began presumably when Isaacson Steel obtained the property in 1994. The property was used as a gravel parking lot for semi-trailers, and the garage was reportedly used by Isaacson Steel for storage and as a paint shop. Additionally, transformers were reportedly stored in the back portion of the garage. In 2012 when Isaacson Steel ceased operations, the Site began operating as an auto repair garage, which continued until recently under the current owner, Paul Croteau. Currently, the Site is only used to store salvaged vehicles and other junk. The City of Berlin acquired the site through a settlement agreement in 2022.
