Addl Cleanup/Treatment info: A contractor field crew mobilized to the site to consolidate universal and hazardous wastes such as paints, paint related wastes, aerosols, corrosive liquids, fluorescent lamps and bulbs, oils and greases, and used electronics. Consolidated container shipments of these material were transported off-site to designated receiving facilities. A specialized asbestos abatement contractor containerized 5 cubic yards of Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) and transported them off-site. In total, the project cleaned up 5 cubic yards of asbestos, 3 cubic yard boxes of used paints, 50 pounds of aerosol cans, 120 gallons of corrosive liquids, approximately 600 pounds of fluorescent lamps and bulbs, 20 gallons of grease, 300 pounds of used acid batteries, 140 gallons of used oil, numerous pallets of used electronic equipment.

Additional Property Attributes

The subject property, situated on a 9.635-acre site in the Half Moon Industrial Park Weirton, WV includes a 42,240 square foot building constructed of steel frame with metal siding/roofing. The primary historic use is warehousing for other manufacturers in Half Moon Industrial. Signode Steel Strapping Co. constructed the building in 1951 and it was open for service when Signode began operations in 1953. Signode ceased operation in the late 1990s. MBS Enterprises, LLC purchased the building in 2001 as an industrial warehouse center. Today, the property is vacant. The Weirton Comprehensive Plan Update identifies the subject property as prime industrial development that houses hundreds of workers. The subject property is a shovel-ready project.
