Additional Property Attributes

According to Brooke County Assessor's records and Sanborn mapping, original construction of two structures on the subject site located on Parcels 7-W27F-132/133 date to 1909. Both buildings are three-floor brick frame buildings. The building on Parcel 132 occupies 15,840 sq-ft and originally built as the Alpine Theater and Restaurant. Renovated over the years, the structure housed several retail businesses, laundry services, dental office, professional services, barber shop, and confectionary as well as storage of construction supplies. Parcel 133 occupies 4,608 sq-ft and first built as a wall paper and paint store with residential space on the upper two floors with a one floor residential space in the rear. Later, the first floor housed several taverns and a restaurant.

Sanborn mapping show a two-story structure on each of Parcels 7-W27F-134/135. The structure Parcel 134 housed a Pool Room and Tavern on the first floor and a Five and Ten Store occupied Parcel 135. The second floor of each structure was residential space. The owner at the time demolished both buildings in the mid-1990's for parking.

Residential structures occupied Parcels 7-W27F-129/131/130 dating back to the early 1800's. Aerial photography indicates all structures removed by 1988 for parking.
The Brooke County Commission is expanding Courthouse facilities by constructing a judicial annex adjacent to the existing county building. The new annex building will occupy in part, employee and visitor parking lot. The site is ideally suited for a new parking facility.
