A demarcation consisting of a geo-fabric and 10-inches clean fill material was placed on the Eastern Lot of the Globe Building site. A 5-inch thick concrete slab is present on a portion of the Northern lot. Therefore, only 5 to 6-inches of clean fill material were used to cover the portion of that Northern Lot. The concrete sla serves as a demarcation on the northern area.

Additional Property Attributes

The Globe Building is identified as Detroit Historical Landmark structure. The Globe Development LLC is converting this former industrial building into a State Park Mesume (state park visit center, commercial retail store, conference hall). The building permit was issued for the building renovation. Globe Development LLC begins building renovation in August 2013. Once completed, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources MDNR will use the building for its visitor center for the State Tricentennial Park. In addition, a section of Dequindre Cut Greenway (see Detroit Riverfront Conservancy web site) , an urban recreational path, was completed in 2010 on the eastern portion of Globe Building site after the City of Detroit successfully completed removal of contaminated soil using USEPA Brownfield Cleanup Grant. Environmental cleanup is to remove the contaminated soils found outside of the building to achieve Residential/Commercial closure for this Brownfield reuse.

Former Use: Formerly used as machine shop, forge, foundry, engine works, oil house, warehouse since 1884 - 1991. The property was vacant since 1991. In 2001, city acquired it through eminent domain.
