Additional Property Attributes

Cleanup on the site was undertaken in early 2011 and redevelopment of the site for a coffee/donut shop was begun in the Fall of 2011. CT DEEP oversaw remediation using ARRA funding. It is believed redevelopment were privately financed. Structures located on the site included a 1,028-square foot, rectangular shaped building constructed in 1951 which was located on the southern portion of the site. The northern portion was an empty lot and there was a wooded area behind the building, to the east. The subject site was unoccupied and according to town records, had been abandoned for approximately ten years. The building had a garage area and an office/boiler room area. In 1953, the town Zoning Board granted permission for construction of two lubrication bays and lavatory facilities. The garage had one and possibly two hydraulic lifts. Two gasoline pumps were located on a concrete pump island between the street and building. Three rusted ASTs were located at the rear of the building. There were four UST covers on the northwestern corner of the parking lot. Three of the USTs had been evacuated; the size of the fourth is unknown. It is likely the site had an on-site septic system. Areas at the rear east and north sides of the building were historically used for junk automobile storage.
