Additional Property Attributes

The target property is west of Milltown, Montana in an area occupied mostly by the Interstate 90 highway and the Montana Rail Link railway, and is bounded by properties either resident, vacant or used for recreation. The target property is currently vacant with no structures and is directly adjacent to the Clark Fork River. The only use is the paved road that accesses the parking lot for the Milltown State Park Confluence Area interpretive trails and river access. The site is approximately 2,000 feet downstream of the confluence of the Blackfoot and Clark Fork Rivers. The target property is bordered on the south by the Clark Fork River and the railway, to the east by a parcel owned by International Paper Company, to the north by Juniper Drive and the Interstate 90 interchange and to the west by a residential property. The property was used as a gravel pit in the past when the Interstate was under development. The International Paper property to the north is the site of a landfill containing boiler ash and other materials from the former Bonner Lumber mill site located immediately to the northeast of the target property. The landfill has been capped with clean material and seeded, and closure was approved by the Montana DEQ in 1993.
