QAPP Addendum only funded through this grant. In November 2001, a Phase I ESA and limited test pit excavation were completed. Also, in April 2006 a Phase I ESA was completed which identified four REC's on the site. Clean-up and park development conducted in 2008 by Town of Cromwell to create a three acre park on the south side of the site. Remainder of site is zoned "Downtown Cromwell" Mixed Use.

Former Use: The town-owned site consists of an irregular-shaped parcel of land of approximately 29.46-acres. The site is bounded by Main Street to the west and south, River Road and the Connecticut River to the east, and South Street to the north. There are currently no structures located on the subject site. Remnants of a concrete foundation slab for a former office structure was observed in the southwest portion of the property. Eastern portion of the site was historically used as an airplane landing runway. Based on review of aerial photography an air control tower building and a support building was formerly located in the northeast portion of the site. The area around these buildings may have been used for fueling and/or mechanical repair operations associated with the airport. A construction contractor occupied the southwestern portion of the site during the 1960�s through the mid 1980�s. It is possible that the southwest portion of the site was filled with dredge material to accommodate the construction of roadways. In addition, a soil berm extending nearly the length of the site along River Road was observed that may also be comprised of dredged material.
