Property Highlights

Site is a former commercial building in the community's downtown area. The City of Prairie City seeks to acquire the building, demolish it, and prepare the site for redevelopment. The City is concerned about any potential environmental liability issues at the site, including asbestos. The IDNR implemented 128a funds to assist the City with a Phase I ESA for due diligence prior to their acquisition of the site. The Phase I did not note any signficant issues, aside from a need to do an asbestos inspection which has not been done yet.

Former Use: American Homes purchawed site on July 23, 2003. The site has had more than 6 ownership transactions in the previous 5 years prior to 2003, including a property transfer in lieu of foreclosure, a corporate reorganization, and combination of parcels. The site remains underutilized and mostly vacant.
