Additional Property Attributes

The City of Elkhart acquired the property by purchase in the late 1980s/early 1990s. Since that time, the city has operated the property as the New York Central Railroad Museum. The city acquired the property from a private individual who operated the property for warehousing purposes. Prior ownership information is not readily available, but the property was historically a portion of the old New York Central Railyard. Sanborn maps indicate that bulk oil storage operations existed at the property in the 1950s.
