Additional Property Attributes

The BTA was conducted for the Kansas Juvenile Justice Authority in response to a sudden abandonment associated with the property. The facility was forced to cease operations immediately due to State budget cuts. The BTA was requested due to environmental uncertainties associated with the property. The property is approximately 51 acres and consists of 24 building structures, similar to a college campus. Recognized environmental conditions RECs associated with the BTA Property were identified as the following: a 90,000 gallon AST with staining around the tank, an Oil Pump House with drums located inside, and four pad mounted PCB transformers and two sets of PCB switches. A Phase II was conducted and identified petroleum impacts above cleanup levels in the soil. The site is being transferred to the KDHE Storage Tanks Program for further assessment and/or remediation.

Former Use: Operated as the Kansas Orphans Home from 1880 to 1950. Kansas SRS operated from 1950 to 1996. Kansas Juvenile Justice Authority assumed operations from 1996 until 2010.
