Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Lime Plant (ECSI # 2507) was constructed by Sun Portland Cement Company in the early 1920s to provide cement for the construction of the Owyhee Dam, located in Malheur County. After the dam was completed in 1928, the operation was sold to the Oregon Portland Cement Company. Oregon Portland Cement Company operated the plant until the company was absorbed by Ash Grove. The high grade limestone deposits were depleted by the mid 1970s and raw material was brought in from Nelson, Oregon. A new plant was built in Nelson in 1979 and the Lime operation was closed in 1980. With the exception of 13.54 acres retained by Ash Grove (see ECSI # 2561), site was sold to Bill Hobson. Baker County foreclosed on the property owned by Mr. Hobson in 1999.
