Additional Property Attributes

A cut vent pipe as well as four groundwater monitoring wells observed at the southern side of the property substantiate the nine USTs which was said to have been removed from the property in 1991. To the western boarder are railway tracks which is part of the WMATA. The two vacant warehouse buildings and two story buildings constructed between 1921 and 1927 and was previously occupied by an Ink manufacturing facility could be a potential source of Asbestors Containing Material ACMand clorinated compounds respectivelly.

Former Use: The subject property is located in a mixed-use area of northeast Washington DC on the south side of Channing Place, NE DC and occupies two lots for a total of 71,926 square feet of land. The subject property is improved with two vacant warehouse building, a two story building to the south of the property which was constructed between 1921 and 1927 and was previously occupied by an ink manufacturing facility operated by the Capitol Printing Ink Company. This company operated from 1935 to 1999. A one story building built between 1943 occupied the northern portion of the property and was formerly a printing facility from 1965 until 1977. The buildings appears to have a slab-on-grade foundation and is constructed with steel structure members and concrete block walls. Eight USTs were removed from the facility in 1991 and a petroleum release was documented in the vicinty of the USTs that were reportedly located on the southern portion of the facility. The exact locations of the former USTS are not known. The release was investigated and remediated to the satisfaction of the DDOE and the case was closed in 1995. According to the District of Columbia property records, the subject property is owned by Jemal's Channing Place, LLC and was aquired in December 2002.A railroad spur also traversed the southwestern portion of the site.
