Additional Property Attributes

In June of 2006, Montauk Environmental Engineering collected four samples from the Raspberry Straits dumpsite. One soil sample was collected from the finished depth of an exploratory trench at the approximate center of the refuse pile. Sample 2 was collected east of the main refuse pile from beneath a woven plastic bag of battery components. Sample 3 was collected from ponded water in the wetlands approximately 90 feet south of the refuse pile center point. Sample 4 was collected as a background sample. All the samples indicated elevated levels of arsenic in the soil which could be attributed to background. Sample 2 that was collected near a plastic bag of battery parts had 17,100 mg/kg lead.

Former Use: The area surrounding the dump site was used for at least two timber harvesting operations from 1944 through 1976. Currently, the land on which the Raspberry Strait Dump Site is located is owned by Afognak Native Corporation ANC. ANC acquired the land on June 20, 1977 by Interim Conveyance Number 060.
