Additional Property Attributes

Considering the information obtained during this investigation, Bullock learned that the site has contained a rail line since the early 1900s. The primary use of the rail line was transportation of coal. Data gaps noted during the historical research include the unavailability of City Directory listings and Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps. However, considering the sites historical use, these data gaps appear to be minor and did not affect the overall conclusions of the Phase I ESA.

Former Use: The site comprises an approximately 16.5-mile abandoned section of the CSX Cane Creek Branch Railroad located in the northwestern sector of Jefferson County, Alabama. The approximate coordinates for the site are north latitude 3338'09.16" and west longitude 8702'20.46" beginning in West Jefferson extending to north latitude 3337'09.07" and west longitude 8647'12.02" ending in Fultondale. The site has contained a rail line since the early 1900s. The primary use of the rail line was transportation of coal.
