Additional Property Attributes

The site is divided by numerous washes, with a number of unpaved roads and dirt tracks, as well as numerous small prospect holes used for mining purposes. Nye County is exploring options to develop the property as a habitat preservation area for the endemic Amargosa Toad and as a green space recreational area in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management and the Nature Conservancy. Design of the trails system is under review to determine the most appropriate alignment of the system in order to balance preservation of habitat with recreational opportunities and private landowner concerns. In September 2012, the US Fish and Wildlife Service recognized the Beatty Habitat Committee, the Town of Beatty, and Nye County, in conjunction with other stakeholder agencies, for their work restoring and preserving Amargosa Toad habitat

Former Use: The site consists of a linear series of parcels. A majority of the parcels are undeveloped, isolated portions that were developed as prospect pits and mine adits. Over the last 5 years numerous environmental studies were performed. Research and outreach activities conducted for the Beatty Habitat Trail included: a Phase I, aerial photography of the proposed trail area, development of maps of the project area, a collaborative design planning process, research into the habitat needs of the native Amargosa Toad species, and a mine adit survey.
