Additional Property Attributes

A Phase I/II Environmental Assessment was previously conducted on this site in 2008, where lead was found in soil and groundwater. Further site characterization and risk assessment was recommended, plus proper closure of the underground storage tanks that remain on site. The City of Cape Girardeau plans to use the site in the realignment of Mason and Chestnut Streets. This form is being updated because a Phase I Update was done at the request of the City of Cape Girardeau. Findings were consistent with the previous assessments. The USTs are still present on site.

Former Use: The site is currently covered by grass with large trees present throughout the site.Gravel and debris from a former building is located in the southwest portion of the property. The site was used as a gas station and auto repair garage until 1950, when it was closed. This site was used as a gas station and auto garage until it closed in 1950. Two underground storage tanks USTs are still present on the property, one 150 gallons and one 250 gallons. Phase I and II Assessment were previously conducted at this site in 2008. However, the City of Cape Girardeau is requesting a current Phase I Assessment Update in order to pursue funding for cleanup at the site. The City plans to demolish the site buildings and use the property in realignment of Mason and Chestnut Streets.
