Additional Property Attributes

The property is located in a visible location in Downtown Chelsea. The property has been vacant for more than 10 years. Redevelopment of this property will be a significant improvement to the downtown and add new restaurant and entertainment options for shoppers and residents. Additionally, there is potential to create 4 apartments on the second floor, which fits well with the City of Chelseas long term strategic plan to offer more housing in the downtown area. Further, every effort will be made to restore the building to its historical character which, will benefit the overall downtown aesthetic.

Former Use: The existing, two-story building was reportedly constructed prior to 1940. The site has been vacant since 2003. The eastern portion of the site was first developed in 1863 as a livery feed and barn. Historical uses of the western side included automobile sales and repair and zinc, tin, nickel, cadmium, and chromium electroplating. The automobile sales and repair operations reportedly began in the 1940s and the electroplating operations reportedly began in the 1950s. These commercial and industrial operations ceased in 2003 and the site and building have been vacant since.
