Additional Property Attributes

Papago Farms site consists largely of fallow agricultural fields which were once devoted to cotton and alfalfa but deemed "economically unfeasible" in a 2004 study. Areas of concern include an old open dump site (containing such as unlabeled containers, tires, appliances), an airstrip, a burned railroad car, dilapidated structures containing solid waste, stained soils adjacent to diesel irrigation pumps and AST's, places associated with storage/transfer of herbicides/pesticides, and 13 wells (mostly abandoned). Currently Tohono O'odham Community Action has devoted about 50 acres of the site to traditional farming of Tohono O'odham food crops such as tepary beans, squash, melon and corn. An active U.S. Border Patrol outpost station occupies a southern portion of the site.

Former Use: Opertional farm from 1960's to 2004.
