This Phase I Environmental Site Assessment revealed the presence of the following recognized environmental condition in connection with the property: � Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. is assessing residential and commercial structures within the Ajo town site to determine whether historic mining- and smelter-related operations in Ajo have resulted in elevated concentrations of metals in the soil Assessment of the subject property has not been conducted. Prior to new development, additional assessment should be conducted and soil samples should be collected and analyzed for eight RCRA metals to identify potential impacts to soil and/or groundwater. A Limited Asbestos Survey of the structure located on the subject property was performed. On February 3, 2011, 11 samples of various building materials were collected plus 14 s for 25 analyses and submitted to Fiberquant Analytical Services for analysis by polarized light microscopy PLM. Asbestos-containing materials ACMs were discovered to be present in the following location: � Sample 9, collected from the ceiling system of the structure, revealed a spray on texture �popcorn ceiling� that contains 2-5 Chrysotile Asbestos. The spray on texture covers an estimated 90 square feet sq. ft..

Former Use: Prior to 1962, three small structures were constructed on the he central and southern portions of the subject property. Between 1962 and 1975, a commercial structure, which was used as a liquor store, was constructed on the northern portion of the subject property and the westernmost structure located on the central portion of the subject property was removed. The two remaining structures located on the central and southern portions of the subject property were removed between 1975 and 1982 and that portion of the subject property was left vacant and undeveloped. Between 1992 and 1998, a knitting shop began operations from the commercial structure and shared occupancy with the liquor store. In 2005, the liquor store and knitting shop discontinued operations and Ajo Transportation began to operate from the facility. No significant changes in use have occurred at the subject property since that time. Ajo Transportation continues to operate from the facility and uses the southern portion of the subject property to store buses.
