Additional Property Attributes

The Farmer?s Market has been a highlight of the City of Shelton?s brownfields work. Since contaminated soil was discovered during property development activities, the city has worked with state and federal agencies to continue with property us planning and environmental clean up. An interim reuse plan was created that allowed the property to be capped with temporary gravel such that the newly constructed farmer?s market building could be available for use for the community. Then, EPA?s funding allowed the remedial action plan to be finalized an approved by the state and final clean up to be quickly initiated and nearly completed. This property has already become a real asset to the city. PPF attached to QR 1, 10/1/05-12/31/05 This property is being used as a Farm and Public Market. It provides opportunities for local farmers and the like to sell goods to the local public. It also provides public enjoyment and improve aesthetics downtown. PPF - Farmers Market, 11-1-06

Former Use: The property was once used as a canal and then filled in the early 1900s. It was used for parking up until 1990s when the city started to develop it for public use.
