Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The site consists of seven tracts of land totaling approximately 56.6 acres. Bisecting the western third of the site is Whitefish Stage Road. Approximately 15.9 acres of Tract 1, located on the west side of Whitefish Stage Road, include wetlands and portions of the Whitefish River. The remaining 40.7 acres of site is a former gravel mine and concrete batch plant. This land is currently being rented out to several non-mining businesses. The property was first used as a gravel pit in the late 1920's and early 1930's. the gravel pit operated up until the 1990's at which point the majority of the gravel on the property had been mined. Several buildings were left at the site when mining was abandoned. The seven tracts of land have been owned by a number of persons over the last hundred years. However, in approximately 1983 a transfer of ownership of the seven tracts of land went to McElroy and Wilken a gravel/construction company with that company merging with JTL in 2003. JTL is still the current property owner. UPDATE: Flathead County Economic Development Authority purchased the property in 2012 allowing for the construction of Glacier Rail Park (completed) followed by the relocation of two rail served businesses formerly located in four locations within the Kalispell Core Area. Spring/Summer 2021 the railroad tracks dividing the core of the city will be removed and replaced with a linear pedestrian trail.
