Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: An historic plat map suggests the Site was developed by 1876, likely for residential and/or agricultural use. Historical aerial photography confirms the Site was occupied by a small structure and associated outbuildings by 1937. Redevelopment of the Site for industrial use appears to have occurred by 1946 and likely corresponds to the use of the site by the Wauwatosa Township Garage. The current owner reportedly purchased the Site in 1954 and began redevelopment of the Site for industrial/manufacturing use in 1957, which is the first year Thurner Heat Treating was listed in a City Directory as the occupant of the Site. Major manufacturing expansions/additions occurred at the property between 1957 and the early 1970s and City Directories indicate Thurner Heat Treating continuously occupied the Site through at least 2000, with numerous additional occupants being noted in City Directories published in the mid-1980s and early-mid 1990s. Thurner Heat Treating reportedly ceased manufacturing operations in 2000 however, heat treating operations continued at the Site through at least 2004 under management of a separate company, the name of which is currently not known. Previous investigations completed at the Site appear to have documented impacts to soil and/or groundwater from metals, petroleum constituents, cyanide, and/or VOCs. Records indicate a UST was removed from the Site in 1994 and historical aerial photography indicates an AST may have been located at the Site from 1979 through 2000.
