Additional Property Attributes

Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry LMM has grown significantly since its inception over 40 years ago. The organizations mission to promote shalom and justice through Christian ministry of service and advocacy with those who are oppressed, forgotten and hurting is realized through their five branches Community Re-Entry, Support to At Risk Teens, Adults at Risk, Persons with Disabilities, and Housing and Shelter, which serve over 10,000 individuals. Their current headquarters, the Richard E. Sering Center in Clevelands Ohio City neighborhood, lacks adequate space and handicap accessibility the organization has had to lease additional space throughout the City. Therefore, the need for a new location was identified as primary issue in their 2008-2010 Strategic Plan. To that end, LMM has identified a potential headquarters location in the St. Clair-Superior neighborhood however, the building has a significant amount of asbestos-containing materials. Renovations can not proceed without the removal of these materials. LMM has requested funding through the Countys USEPA ARRA BRLF grant to conduct the asbestos abatement. The County would subgrant the funds, in an amount not-to-exceed 200,000 to Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry for the asbestos cleanup. This subgrant would allow LMM to put the funds currently being raised through a capital campaign into other renovation activities associated with the new headquarters, such as handicap accessibility. Further, the creation of a new central headquarters will allow LMM to consolidate some of their operations and capitalize the funds currently being utilized to rent office space in various locations throughout the City. LMM employs approximately 192 individuals and provides thousands of county residents with support services, so the use of federal funds for the asbestos cleanup assists LMM in furthering their mission.
