Additional Property Attributes

The Baggage Building serviced a passenger rail platform until it was converted to an apartment. The property is planned to be renovated into a new passenger rail ticket office for Amtrak's DownEaster train.

Former Use: The Site is considered to be a small part of a 0.18-acre parcel of land located between Lincoln Street and the Boston and Maine Railroad and consists of one 700 square-foot granite block building, known as the Baggage Building, as well as approximately 3,200-square feet of land that is proposed to be conveyed during the property transaction. The Baggage Building is connected to the train station building by a breezeway. Both the Baggage Building and the train station building were constructed in the 1890s. The Site was reportedly used as a baggage building that supported passenger rail operations and as a small train station/waiting area, though the building was remodeled into a single residential apartment sometime after 1968. The Site is located directly adjacent to the Boston and Maine Railroad, which is currently used by Amtrak for the Downeaster passenger train service and Pan Am Systems freight rail service. Amtrak currently operates five daily round trips between Portland, Maine, and Boston, Massachusetts and the freight rail service makes as many as 10 daily trips that pass the subject property.
