Additional Property Attributes

A completed baseball field and community park now stand on the remnants of a former industrial parcel in Waterbury's south end. In 2012, the former Nova Dye factory burned, leaving a contaminated and vacant parcel in one of the City's most underserved areas. In addition to $3 million provided by the state of Connecticut, NVCOG's Revolving Loan Fund Committee provided a $200,000 subgrant to close environmental data gaps. The park, named after longtime educator and coach George Tirado Sr., is adjacent to the Mad River and will provide a safe space for recreational opportunities in a part of the City that did not previously have easy access to green space. Groundwater monitoring is ongoing.
