Property Highlights

Former Use: The property was originally occupied by Anson, Gilkey & Hurd Company. Anson, Gilkey & Hurd Company occupied the site from 1904-1980 and used the site for the manufacturing of wood windows and doors. D&L purchased the site in 1981. Under D&L�s ownership, a number of companies operated on the property while leasing it from D&L. Specifically, portions of the property were leased to J. Walter Corporation from 1983-1989 and to Semling & Menke Company SEMCO from 1990-2011. J. Walter Corporation used the site for assembling components for final products known as �jambliners� and �window screens� for the window industry. There is no record of storage or use of any material other than aluminum, vinyl, and solid foam components in addition to corrugated packaging, fiberglass screen wire and glue used to attach�he foam material to the vinyl extrusions. SEMCO used the site primarily for designing and assembling machines and equipment used in the manufacturing of windows and doors at the neighboring 400 S Kyes Street site. Additionally, SEMCO used the space to repair, alter, and modify existing equipment used in the manufacturing plants. Currently, SEMCO is storing a wide variety of wood window components, partially assembled window units, other miscellaneous window components and returned or defective window units. SEMCO will be leaving the facility in the fall of 2011.
