Additional Property Attributes

The site is comprised of two properties totaling approximately 0.661 acres. The 1161 Main Street parcel (0.16 acres) was previously occupied by a six-story, 41,700 SF building which was demolished in 2010. The 40 Chapel Street parcel (0.5 acres) at one time contained a portion of the building which was located on 1161 Main Street but this portion of the building was demolished during the 1980's. 1161 Main & 40 Chapel Street: Following the investigation funded by the MetroHartford Brownfields Program Assessment Grant, the City of Hartford leveraged an additional 15,200 for subsurface investigation, 2,000 for a Phase I ESA, and 5,884 for a hazardous building material survey. The City then proceeded with demolition of the multi-story building located at 1161 Main Street. In 2013 the City applied for and was awarded a 200,000 EPA Brownfields Petroleum Cleanup Grant to remediate a release from an underground storage tank.
