Additional Property Attributes

The planned use for the property is to develop the eastern-most segment of the existing park into a water spray park develop the middle segment into a skateboard park for the city youth, and to leave the western-most segment as an open space grass area with picnic tables.

Former Use: The property is currently used as a city park i.e., Montez Park and consists of three separate grass segments of open space land with mature trees, which are bisected by city streets. Review of fire insurance maps, aerial photographs, and topographic maps indicated that the subject property has been used as Railroad Grounds since at least 1920, until circa 1964 when the City of Monte Vista began leasing the property from the San Luis & Rio Grande Railroad Company, Inc. previously the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad Company for use as a city park i.e., Montez Park.
