Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The entire 774 East Main Street property, including the 2.09-acre subject Site, is currently owned by the City of Bridgeport and comprises approximately 6 acres. The property includes areas that were formerly occupied by the Bridgeport Brass Company. No current structures are located within the limits of the subject Site; however, a concrete slab from a portion of the Bridgeport Brass Facility comprises the southern portion of the subject Site. Operations at the Bridgeport Brass facility included a rolling mill, metal casting, pressing, buffing, machining, plating, and painting. Several large water tanks and cisterns were present at the facility. The facility continued to expand through the 1930s and 1940s until the entire block was occupied by Bridgeport Brass Company, as evident in the 1950 Sanborn map and 1951 aerial photograph. During World War II the Bridgeport Brass Company manufactured brass cartridges for the military. The 1950s era facility expanded to include multistory brick factory buildings that housed larger machine shops, pressing, plating, and buffing operations, and the storage of paint, oil, and lacquer.
