Additional Property Attributes

"This property is in a blighted area and is part of the revitalization of historic downtonwn Joplin. The City of Joplin plans to develop this property as a stormwater detention and parking area. The Phase II ESA found extremely high levels of lead in soil, as well as other metals, gasoline and PAHs. Metals were also found in groundwater. Further characterization is warranted, and cleanup and/or institutuional controls may be necessary."

Former Use: This site is a former railroad property, also used for oil and coal storage. The site is owned by Gryphon Building Development Company, LLC. A Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) conducted in August 2010 identified these former operations as recognized environmental conditions (RECs). Adjacent properties, including three gas stations, and a lead and paint company, were identified as potential offsite RECs.
