Additional Property Attributes

The site was a former UST location. USTs pulled in 1995 and all LUST issues resolved. City sought to acquire site and tear dilapidated, abandoned gas station down, but concerns over asbestos and past site history hindered City interest. Phase I was done with 128(a) funds to review all environmental situations to date, and with the only REC remaining being ACM, a cost-assistance cleanup contract was issued with 128(a) funds to assist with minor ACM on the building's chimney. (The State LRP does not enroll, or issue NFA Certificates for, asbestos-only contaminated sites.)

Former Use: The site was developed as a gasoline station in the mid-1950s. It operated until 1994, when the underground storage tanks at the site were abandoned, and filled in place with concrete slurry. The Iowa Dept. of Natural Resources conducted a Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) investigation at the site, and a No Further Action status had been issued by 2004. The 2-bay gasoline station was most recently used for private auto repair and storage. The condition of the building and property has continued to deteriorate.
