Additional Property Attributes

This property was a former dental clinic, but the building was deteriorating and derelict. The roof was in danger of collapse, and a release of ACM was imminent. The Emmetsburg Community Development Corporation sought to obtain the building, demolish it, and present the lot for redevelopment; however, they feared environmental unknowns and ACM compliance issues. 128(a) funds were used to complete a Phase I, an ACM inspection, and upon the CDC's acquisition, cost assistance for asbestos removal was provided. (The State LRP does not enroll, or issue NFA Certificates for, asbestos-only contaminated sites.) The building has now been demolished and a local bank is considering purchasing the shovel-ready lot for a bank expansion.

Former Use: This property was a commercial building, constructed in the 1920s. The building had been most recently used for a dental clinic, but the clinic closed approximately 10 years ago, and the building had fallen into disrepair. The roof was collapsing, and the entire building had extensive water damage; the building was deemed to be structurally unsound by the City, and posed a collapse danger to neighboring structures on other properties.
