Property Highlights

Upon the 128(a) assistance to the City of Emmetsburg for asbestos abatement, the City demolished the building and prepared the lot as "shovel ready". The City then sought to provide the lot for redevelopment by soliciting Request for Proposals (RFPs) from the area with the option for businesses interested in locating a new building on the property. The RFP noted that the selected business would be provided with the property at no charge, if they had a value-added redevelopment project. An area insurance company that wanted to expand its offices had the best RFP response, and they built a new building and created 2 new jobs beyond the existing employees! It was the first new building in downtown Emmetsburg in 27 years!

Former Use: This site was a former Wards' department store and attorney/business office on 2nd floor, built in 1910. The building was abandoned, derelict, and the roof had collapsed into the 2nd story.
