Property Highlights

Future home of Big Sandy Library. Five building materials were confirmed positive for containing asbestos. However, only two building materials contained asbestos in concentrations exceeding the current EPA and MDEQ-ACP regulatory limit of one percent: the troweled-on ceiling texture and 9"x9" tan vinyl floor tile. The ceiling texture, floor tile, and sheetrock wall systems should be abated prior to renovation activities.

Former Use: The site includes a one-story building with a crawl space and a 20-ft square basement boiler room. The building, which has a footprint of approximately 5,400 square feet, was built in approximately 1959. The superstructure was composed of steel which was d with wood. The building was originally constructed as a veteran's club and then served as a bar/restaurant from 1961 to the 1980s, and was then occupied by a dry goods store until 1997. The structure has been vacant since 1997.
