The results of sampling of building materials from the Moapa Band of Paiute administration building found approximately 25 square feet of the roof surface covered by a black sealant material that contained asbestos above regulatory standards. At the time of the investigation this material was determined non-friable. The Moapa Band of Paiute Tribe will need to maintain this sealant in good condition in order to assure its non-friable status.

Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Moapa Band of Paiute Tribal Administration building is an approximate 6800 square feet single-story office building constructed in 1968 on 1.3 acres for the purpose of housing tribal administrative staff. Because of its age, tribal members were concerned that building materials used may consist of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) and/or lead-based paint (LBP). The NDEP 128(a) Brownsfield program funded a Phase I environmental site assessment that included the investigation and sampling of building materials for ACMs and LBP. ACM was found in black roof sealant covering an approximate 25 square feet section of the roof. No paint was sampled as all interior painted surfaces were deemed in good condition, however; some window glazing and caulk was sampled and found to contain quantities of lead below the regulatory standard of 0.5 lead. Due to these findings, the tribe plans no further investigation or mitigation on the administration building at this time.
