Property may be redevloped for parking and landscaped entrance area for the abutting (off-site) former manufacturing building that is being renovated.

Former Use: The site is currently vacant. Portions of former building foundations and/or concrete slabs are located on portions of the site. A small pond is located on the northern portion of the site. The site is abutted by residential dwellings to the north across Massachusetts Avenue and to the west across Ashton Avenue. The abutting parcel to the east is occupied by an abandoned manufacturing building, which is known as the historic Blackinton Mill. Abutting the site to the south is a railroad line, and to the south of the railroad line is the Hoosic River. The site is located within the northern edge of a Potentially Productive Medium Yield Aquifer and a MassDEP Approved Wellhead Protection Area for a public water supply well. The site was formerly improved by a manufacturing complex that occupied the majority of the 1.9-acre property. Tannery operations occurred at the site from approximately the early 1900s through the 1980s. The manufacturing complex was reportedly destroyed by a fire in 1995, and the site buildings were subsequently demolished. Also, a 10,000-gallon No. 6 fuel oil underground storage tank was reportedly removed from the site in January 1988. Historical records indicate that tannery wastes generated as part of site operations included solvents and metals. During tannery operations, the site property was owned by various owners. Prior to the City obtaining the property in 2008 (through a tax title of non-payment of taxes), the Interfaith Church of Cosmogony owned the vacant property.
