Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The 1908 Sanborn Map indicates that one of the commercial structures (506 6th Street) was utilized as the Steam Laundry facility. A large vacant structure was constructed in 1927 at the northeast corner of 6th and Villa Street (522 6th Street) this structure currently exists. By 1933 the Steam Laundry facility had expanded into a new larger structure behind (north) of their previous location. The new laundry facility is located in the central portion of the Site. From 1933 through 1950 it appears that little changed at the Site. A split residence remains in the northeast portion of the Site (508 and 510 Park Avenue) The vacant structure at the northeast corner of 6th and Villa Street (520 6th Street) has since been occupied by a Furniture Store. The 1954 City Directory details that the occupants of the split residence were Jas M. Reed (508 Park Avenue) and Peter P. Runkel (510 Park Avenue) Additionally, the 1954 City Directory indicates that the commercial portions of the Site are being utilized as a Laundry Facility (506 6th Street), Furniture Store (522 6th Street) and a tavern (508-510 6th Street). By 1960 the City Directory contained the addition of Kovach Motors Inc. to 520-522 6th Street and Mavis Beauty Shop to 510 6th Street. It appears that Kovach Motors Inc. and Kovach Realty took ownership of the Site circa 1960 and maintained ownership until 1999 when the site was sold to James Spodick. Under the ownership of Kovach the Site operated as an automotive dealership and garage. The underground parking facility on the East Parcel was constructed in approximately in 1966 and appeared to be used as both a parking facility and a used car lot for the neighboring Kovach Motors. After taking ownership from Kovach, it appears that James Spodick utilized the West Parcel as a restaurant and a grocery store. Operations appear to have ceased at the Site in December of 2010 when Southport Bank took ownership of the Site from James Spodick.
